Big Basket Bingo

Playing Bingo

The game we know as bingo is thought to have originated in Europe, and the early games were first played in Italy in the 1500s. The French later adopted the game, and it was a hit among the wealthy elite in the country. Later in history, bingo was used by the Germans to teach basic arithmetic and language skills to children.

By the 1800s, the game of bingo had become popular throughout Europe, and the game was introduced to the United States early in the 1900s. The exciting nature of the game caused it to spread quickly and it was soon turned from a fun pastime to a lucrative fundraiser for churches, charities and schools.

Bingo is among the easiest of all games to play, and one which requires only the simplest of equipment. The only things needed for a game of bingo are bingo cards, bingo cages and a way to mark the cards.

Traditional bingo cards have numbers in the 25 spaces on the cards, but there are educational bingo cards that contain pictures of animals, words and other teaching tools. These specialty bingo cards are great for teaching children all kinds of fun learning lessons.

There are a number of ways to mark the cards as well, with the most common being daubers and plastic discs. In many places, pieces of corn and similar materials are used to mark the cards. Basically anything can be used to mark the bingo cards.

Bingo enthusiasts often purchase custom daubers and other bingo materials, and lucky charms and other such materials are quite common as well. After all, getting luck on your side is important with type of gambling, and it never hurts to have a little extra luck in a game of bingo.

Like other types of games and activities, the game of bingo has its own special terminology. Regular bingo players can tell you all about such terms as blackout, four corners, face, coverall and other such terms. There are even books written specifically for bingo players, and there are tournaments where the top bingo players gather to vie for the biggest prizes.

One of the greatest things about bingo, however, is the luck factor involved in the game. Everyone starts with the same odds of winning, and that is one of the things that make the game so popular year after year.
