The military personnel may find that a certain medicine called Mestinon is helpful. If they are exposed to nerve gas for prolonged periods of time, the drug helps the body to reestablish the connection between nerve impulses and muscle movement. In addition, this medication is effectively used in the treatment of a condition named myasthenia gravis.
Important Facts about Mestinon
Patients who suffer from a severe stomach problem called peritonitis are recommended not to start a treatment based on Mestinon. In the same situation are the people who have a kidney problem or who suffer from asthma. A blocked bladder or bowel may also prevent people from taking Mestinon. These things are very important and must be reported to the doctor before starting the treatment. The health care provider may adjust the dosage or may choose an alternative treatment. Also, the pregnant women and the ones who prepare to become pregnant must inform their doctor about this fact, as otherwise the fetus is in danger. Surgeons must know about the Mestinon treatment before any surgical intervention is started.
Mestinon Storing and Administration Instructions
The medicine must be kept at room temperature, in a place where moisture and heat are not present. There are two presentation forms: tablets and liquid for suspension. The tablets must be swallowed as a whole. Crushing, cutting or chewing the tablets is not permitted under any circumstances. This is because the tablets have an extended release system which delivers the drug in small amounts for a longer period of time. Crushing the tablets will cause the entire amount of active ingredient to be released at once. Doing so will not lead to the maximum performance of the drug. Each dose of the liquid form of Mestinon must be quantified with a special spoon which is either provided with the drug, or bought separately from the pharmacy. The dosage, as well as the time when the drug is taken must be respected firmly.
