One of the most common antibiotics, tetracycline marketed under the brand name Sumycin, is produced by the Streptomyces bacterium and is used against many bacterial infections.
Sumycin Information
Tetracycline was discovered by Lloyd Conover in the research departments of Pfizer. It has proven to be one of the most significant discoveries made in the field of antibiotics because it can treat many graham-positive and graham-negative bacteria and some protozoa.
Being a "broad-spectrum" antibiotic, Sumycin is sometimes an alternative drug for those who are allergic to penicillin. It is well-known for its antibacterial action against upper respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, pneumonia, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, severe acne, conductivities, trachoma (a chronic eye infection), and even ulcers.
Do not use Sumycin during the last half of pregnancy or in children under the age of 8 because it causes permanent discoloration of the teeth. Antacids containing calcium (it is not indicated to be taken with milk or yogurt), aluminum, and magnesium affect the absorption of the drug.
Since tetracycline is absorbed into the bone, Sumycin is often used as a marker of bone growth for biopsies in humans because of its detectability through fluorescence and also Sumycin is used as a biomarker in wildlife to detect consumption of medicine- or vaccine-containing baits.
Sumycin - contraindications and side effects:
* If it's overused to treat acne vulgaris, the skin may become dark and flaky
* Drug induced hepatitis and lupus
* White patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips
* Vaginal itching or discharge
* Fever, chills, flu symptoms, body aches
* Unusual weakness and easy bleeding or bruising
* Stomach upset, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea
* Sores or swelling in your rectal or genital area
* Loss of appetite, jaundice
* Hypersensitivity reactions
* Hepatic cholestatis, anemia, renal toxicity
Sumycin guarantees an excellent penetration of the tetracycline into most body fluids and tissues. Tetracyclines should not be used by pregnant women as they cross into fetal circulation and amniotic fluid and then they are concentrated by the liver in the bile.
As with other antibiotics, use of Sumycin may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi; if super infections appear the antibiotic should be discontinued.
The antibacterial drugs that include Sumycin do not treat viral infections. The medicine should be used with caution to patients with history of asthma, allergy, urticaria or hay fever because sensitivity reactions may occur.
