Betoptic is also referred to as Betaxolol, Betoptic S and Lokren. It is a beta receptor blocker used for treating glaucoma and hypertension. Unlike other beta receptor blockers, Betoptic can be used as an effective eye ointment. By applying it on the eye, ocular pressure is greatly reduced.

Usage

Glaucoma is characterized by increased pressure within the eyes. In order to reduce this pressure, Betoptic enters the blood stream through the eyes and suppresses the release of neurotransmitters, thus reducing the pressure in the eyes.

Betoptic is a prescription only drug, and before usage it is necessary that one should consult a doctor who can prescribe the correct dosage of the medicine. Betoptic is generally applied on the eye three times daily; once on the morning, afternoon and at night. Betoptic can be applied on the eye as follows:

1 With an eye dropper take small quantities of Betoptic from the bottle container.
2 Open eyelids gently so that the cornea is exposed to eyedropper.
3 Pour two to three drops of Betoptic in the eye.
4 With Betoptic in the eyes shut the eyes for at least 5-10 minutes.
5 Open your eyes, do not rinse the eye dropper.

Side effects

The most common side effect while using Betoptic is eye irritation which is characterized by a burning sensation. Other symptoms include:
