Ceclor Cd

Drugs Information

Ceclor is a cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of various infections caused by bacteria in the ear, throat, nose and in urinary tract. The ingredients of Ceclor include monohydrate and anhydrous cefaclor, with cornstarch, cellulose, silicone, sucrose, sodium lauryl sulfate, xanthum gum and F D and C Red No. 40.

It is primarily an antibiotic which is used in the treatment of pneumonia, septicaemia, pharyntitis meningitis, peritonitis, tonsillitis respiratory and nervous system infections.

Side effects of Ceclor:

It is usually seen that Ceclor causes side effects such as hypersensitivity. It also causes allergy to skin as it might develop rashes, itch, fever, anaphylaxis and arthralgia. Some other common side effects of this medicine include gastric troubles such as diarrhea, abdominal pains and vomiting. It can also lead to blood disorders such as anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia and agranulocytosis which are a rarity. Some other prominent side effects include sleep disorders, hallucination, nervousness and confusion.

Though Ceclor is an antibiotic yet it should be taken under expert medical advice as its excessive dose can lead to several complications if the patient already has a previous medical history of heart ailment, liver infection, kidney problems and neurosis problems. This medicine should not be taken along with other medication drugs as it can complicate the clinical condition of the patient and can worsen it altogether. It is also advised that this medicine should not be combined with Coumarins, Probenecid and Antacids. Ceclor can have a negative after-effect if it is consumed with the above stated medicines.

According to American Food and Drug Association (AFDA), pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are not advised to take this medicine as it can affect the child in the womb or the medicine can enter into the child in trace amounts through mother's milk.

A general word of caution:

If Ceclor is taken to the point of overdose, it will show symptoms such as spasms, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pains, vomiting and seizures. If the patient shows these signs, then he/she should be given immediate medical supervision.

It is also advised that Ceclor should be kept away from the reach of children as it is potentially dangerous if it is taken without a doctor's prescription. It should be remembered that Ceclor can only cure bacterial infections rather than viral fever. Thus, use the drug as prescribed and follow it with the directions and the amount of dosage prescribed.
