Daivonex is the trade name of Calcipotriol and is distributed as a non steroid treatment for the most common form of Psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder caused by overactive skin cells which produce plaques on the skin. These plaques are raised, rough areas of reddened skin covered by dry, silvery scales. The condition causes an extreme itching sensation which often leads to a secondary infection due to scratching the skin.

How is Daivonex administered?

Daivonex can only be obtained with a doctors prescription. It is distributed as a soft white cream, a white to yellowish ointment and also as a colorless, non-running scalp solution. Daivonex is to be used externally on the affected areas of skin for adults. Children should only use Daivonex ointment, as the safety of the other forms has not been tested on children at this time. Women who are breast feeding, pregnant, or intend to be, should not use Daivonex as the medication could be passed on to the child.

The ointment and cream is applied by the same method. The medication is applied directly to the plaques with great care not to spread the preparation on healthy surrounding skin. If you get Daivonex on healthy skin, it should be washed off immediately. Daivonex ointment and creams should never be applied to the face, scalp, genitalia or folds of skin.

The scalp treatment is applied ONLY to the scalp. The medication should be applied a few drops at a time and only to the affected areas. Again, if the medication comes into contact with your face or healthy skin, wash the area immediately. With any form of Daivonex, wash your hands immediately after applying the product, unless your hands are being treated for Psoriasis.

If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor or nurse immediately. Side effects of Daivonex include, but are not limited to, a change in skin color, sensitivity to light, a reddened rash on the face and rashes or peeling of the skin.

Safety precautions for Daivonex

Daivonex should be stored in the box until you are ready to apply the medicine. It should be kept well away from children. NEVER share Daivonex with another person, even if they are suffering with the same condition as yourself. Store Daivonex in a cool, dry place, away from flame, heat and moisture. If your doctor tells you to stop using Daivonex or if the expiration date is reached, consult your pharmacist for proper disposal.
