Cytotec is a drug associated with labor inducement. It has an abortifacient property that makes it a preferable drug for pregnant women. Since it has the ability to induce labor, it is most often used to induce labor for abortion. However, physicians are also using it to induce labor in pregnant women.

Why cytotec is useful for pregnant women only?

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy is a prescribed medication for arthritis, pain, and respiratory disorders. Cystotec should not be used while taking any NSAID therapy. Usage of NSAIDs puts a pregnant woman at higher risk of developing gastric ulcers.

Precautions

There has been significant research work regarding the usage of this drug and its side effects. In November 1999 American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists issued an oppinion warning of significantly larger chances of uterine damage if a heavy dosage of Cytotec is taken.

Cytotec is known by the generic as Misoprostol, and is also used for decreasing blood pressure after a pregnant woman has delivered a baby.
