Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth book in the Harry Potter series created by JK Rowling. By the time that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released, the entire series had become a genuine sensation. The release of this title was met with more anticipation than any of the previous titles. Only its successors have managed to match or exceed the excitement that met the release of the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The book was also singular because at 636 pages it was one of the heftiest children's books ever published. The book also caused massive speculation because Rowling had mentioned that there was the possibility that one of the characters would be murdered.
In this popular volume, Harry again spends a large part of his summer holiday with the Weasley family as well visiting with Hermione Granger. They all attend the Quidditch World Cup. At the stadium they meet with Minister of Magic Cornellius Fudge and the Malfoys. There is a loud commotion that night and Arthur Weasley sets out to investigate. It appears that Death Eaters are attacking Muggles. Harry, Ron and Hermione hide in the woods during this commotion. A dark mark suddenly appears in the sky, further causing panic. Then Harry discovers that his wand has disappeared. The house elf Winky is caught with Harry's wand, and he is thought guilty of creating the dark mark.
Back at Hogwarts, Dumbledore introduces the students to the retired Auror "Mad-Eye" Moody as a new teacher. He also announces that the Triwizard Tournament will be held at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is decided that one student from each of the competing schools will be selected as champions. The Ministry of Magic has determined that only students over 17 are eligible to compete. The Hogwart champion selected is Cedric Diggory. No one can explain it when the Goblet also chooses Harry Potter as a champion. He must compete, although he realizes that it will put him in grave danger. Many people, including Ron Weasley, begin to believe that Harry has purposefully entered his name into the competition in order to gain fame.
Eventually, Ron realizes that Harry did not cheat in order to compete in the tournament. When Christmas arrives, all the Hogwarts students attend the Yule Ball. Harry is required to choose a partner for the opening dance. He invites Cho Chang, a Ravenclaw student, but she has already accepted to go as Cedric Diggory's partner. Then he asks another classmate, Parvati Patil. Ron attends the dance with Parvati's twin, Padma. However, Ron becomes jealous when he sees Hermione on the arm of Viktor Krum.
The second part of the competition finds Harry tying with Cedric Diggory. In the final event, Harry must conquer a grueling maze. Within the maze is the hidden Triwizard Cup. It is said that whoever first finds the trophy wins the whole tournament. Harry and Cedric help each other throughout the tournament, and they agree that they will retrieve the cup simultaneously. However, it is revealed that the cup is actually a port key that will transport them to a graveyard. Wormtail and Voldemort are awaiting them at the graveyard. Pettigrew murders Cedric at Voldemort's command, and then uses Harry's blood to restore Voldemort's body. Voldemort than engages with Harry in a vicious duel. However, their wands cannot fight against each other because they both contain a feather from the same phoenix. Harry is able to escape through the port key of Cedric's body. When Voldemort's plan does not work, Moody also attempts to murder Harry. Fortunately, Harry is saved by Dumbledore, McGonagall and Snape.
