Daniel Radcliffe has been made into a genuine movie star because of the popularity of the Harry Potter books and subsequent film adaptations. Most Harry Potter fans agree that Daniel makes the perfect Harry Potter because he emits a sense of courage, earnestness and real-life teenage behavior that makes Harry Potter such an appealing character. In the eyes of many fans, Daniel Radcliffe is Harry Potter.
Daniel Radcliffe was born in Fulham, London. He is the only son of Alan Radcliffe and Marcia Gresham. His father Alan is a literary agent, while mother Marcia is a casting agent for the BBC. Daniel lives with his parents and two dogs, named Binka and Nugget. From an early age, Radcliffe expressed an interest in going into acting. He made his acting debut in the BBC production of Charles Dickens popular novel, David Copperfield, which was released in December of 1999. Young Radcliffe portrayed the title character as a boy. But Radcliffe’s truly big break arrived when he tried out for the much-coveted role of Harry Potter in the big-budget film adaptations of the immensely popular JK Rowling book series. After attending an open call audition, and after several rounds of auditions, Radcliffe finally landed the role of a lifetime.
In August of 2000, it was announced that Daniel Radcliffe would be taking on the role of Harry Potter in the film adaptations of the mega-popular book series. Although he was selected for the role of Harry Potter in August of 2000, Radcliffe actually made his official big screen film debut in the Tailor of Panama in 2001. Later that year, the world would come to know him as Harry Potter in the first adaptation of the Rowling’s novels, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the North American version). The film met all expectation and quickly became one of the highest grossing films in the year, and one of the most successful film franchises of all time was launched.
Daniel Radcliffe has gone on to star in four more Harry Potter films, including Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of the Phoenix. It is not yet known whether the remaining books in the series (there will be seven in total) will be adapted into film, but chances are they will eventually be made into films because the franchise has been so successful.
Daniel Radcliffe has begun to move beyond his Harry Potter persona. Radcliffe has recently starred in stage productions. In 2002, for instance, he appeared in a guest role in The Play What I Wrote, a West End production directed by Kenneth Branagh (who also co-starred in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets). In 2006, Radcliffe made a little fun of his image when he appeared in Extras. On that show, he gleefully did a parody of himself. Radcliffe appears to be making a smooth transition into adult roles, carefully moving past the role of Harry Potter. Child actors notoriously have a difficult time transitioning into adult roles, and it appear that Radcliffe’s troubles would be compounded by the fact that he has achieved such success at an early age, playing one of the most recognizable roles of all times. But Radcliffe appears to be making the transition with little difficulty, appearing in small independent movies and taking on more theatrical roles. One of his most recent film roles is for an independent Australian production called December Boys. He is also scheduled to appear on stage in the play Equus, a role that has generated media buzz because he is scheduled to appear nude.
