You may want to gradually add some utilities to your iPod to enhance its performance and functionality. There are so many extras you can add that it may be hard to choose just one. Fortunately, you can add as many as you want.

The add2ipod utility allows you to add music files right to your iPod library without going through the hassle of copying them into your iTunes library. The Split + Join utility will let you put 2000 character groups of text onto your iPod which is quite handy.

Anapod Explorer (free version) allows you to view your iPod and copy files to it as a device in Windows Explorer. The full version allows you to transfer files from your iPod to a PC. Anapod Explorer requires a PC-formatted iPod. AppleScript iPod Scripts are free scripts for creating and managing notes on your iPod, which include Clear All Notes, Clipboard to Note, Eject iPod, List Notes, and Note From Webpages. BITcom Xpod lets you copy music files from your iPod to your local hard disk. Broken Helix pulls out songs from your iPod and transfers them into iTunes.

Ejector adds an Eject icon to the Mac OS X menu bar. From it you are able to eject an iPod, CD, DVD, USB, .dmg or a hard disk. El iPodo lets you browse your iPod and copy files to your hard disk. Tested on iPod 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, mini and shuffle iPod. The iPod ecreator is a free web-based tool (no software to install) that can upload and split text files into notes for use on iPod. The automatically linked notes make it easy to move between pages. iPodWizard (iPW) is Microsoft Windows application that allows you to change the fonts, graphics and text on your iPod. iPodWizard can also uncap the volume on any European iPod. IPod2mac lets you copy music files from the invisible folders of the iPod and manage the Note files. iPod Viewer lets you transfer songs from your iPod to your computer. iPodderX uses RSS and Atom newsfeeds to deliver podcasts including audio, movies, images, documents and files to your Mac. Simply look through the integrated directory to select and subscribe to podcasts of interest. iPodderX Lite is free, but has a limited feature set of the full version. The iPodulator allows you to create iPod-compatible reading with this free web-based tool (no software to install). Simply enter the URL of a web page or RSS feed, click on the iPodinate button, and save the resulting output to your Desktop or iPod Notes folder. iVolt enables the on-screen voltage meter on iPods with a dock connector.

iZoom allows you to resize and crop your photos for optimized display on your iPod photo, on the web, or in email. iZoom is very useful for creating web photo galleries, forum-user avatars, and image thumbnails, or resizing your photos for perfect viewing on your iPod photo screen. Just drag your photos directly or from iPhoto to the iZoom canvas. PodLyrics searches your iPod for songs, downloads selected lyrics from your Internet-connected computer, and stores them in the Notes section of your iPod. PodMail synchronizes your IMAP mailboxes with your iPod for portable offline viewing. Simply attach your iPod and insert your IMAP information into the fields on the front page. Clicking the Sync Now button will create a PodMail folder in the Notes folder on your iPod. This folder includes an index page, which displays an organized listing of all emails transfered to your iPod. mFinder displays on your iPod the addresses, phone numbers, hours, management, attire and parking for restaurants in five different cities. Meals2Go displays emerils.com weekly menus on your iPod, and Recipes2Go offers over 1000 recipes. Podtext transfers text-based notes that can be read directly on the iPod's screen. PodType allows you to Type short notes and numbers directly on your iPod. podType includes files titled with the letters of the alphabet, numbers and special characters. Notes are typed by choosing a letter and holding the select button to add it to on-the-go playlists. Rip to iPod looks like CD-to-iPod importing. Rip to iPod rips each selected CD track to iTunes, and then at once copies it to iPod, deletes the file, and displaces the track from the iTunes library. Rob's iPod export allows you to copy single tracks from your iPod to your computer. Text2iPod X lets you view text files on your iPod. YamiPod is a freeware application to efficiently manage your iPod under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It can be run directly from your iPod and needs no loading
