If you are experiencing certain skin inflammations that involve swelling, itching, or redness, your doctor may prescribe some Elocon ointment for you.
Elocon ointment is applied to the skin to modify the immune reactions of your body towards certain allergens and reduce inflammatory reactions.
Before application
Take note of some of your past or existing medical conditions and report them to your physician before getting a prescription for Elocon ointment. This is because there are certain conditions that my interact with its ingredients. Some of the conditions include the following:
* Pregnancy, breast-feeding, or if you are planning to become pregnant.
* If you are allergic to certain foods or medicines
* If you are taking nonprescription or prescription medicines, and dietary or herbal supplements.
* If you have measles, acne-like lesions, inflammations surrounding your mouth, chicken pox, recent vaccinations, skin infections, and the like.
Using Elocon
The use of Elocon ointment is dependent on your doctor's orders. However, make sure to check on the label, too, so you can have an idea on the instructions for the right dosage. Here is the common way to apply Elocon:
* Elocon should be applied on the affected area only once in a day. Rub the medicine gently on the affected area until evenly distributed.
* Wash your hands after applying the cream unless they are the affected areas.
* If you miss your recommended dose, apply it as soon as you can. However, if the time for your next application is near, then wait for it. Never use 2 doses.
Side effects
The side effects for Elocon usually depend on who uses it. However, you are recommended to consult your doctor if any of these very common side effects are bothering you: burning, itching, flushing, second infection, skin discoloration, redness, thinning of the skin, wasting of the skin, tingling, stinging, and swelling.
Severe side effects
Seek immediate medical attention upon the onset of severe side effects like rashes, itching, hives, breathing difficulties, swelling of the lips, mouth, face and tongue, and tightness in the chest.
More safety information
Remember that Elocon ointment is for external use only. Never use it on your groin area, face or underarms unless directed by your physician. Furthermore, do not cover or bandage the treated areas unless instructed by the doctor. When your skin heals, stop using it but if you have not seen any improvement in 2 weeks, consult your doctor about it.
