Felodipine Plendil is a very difficult to say name for a drug which is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Plendil is the brand name, while felodipine is the generic name of the drug.

What is felodipine plendil?

Felodipine plendil is a drug which is used to treat chest pain, which is officially known as angina and hypertension. Felodipine plendil is known as a calcium channel blocker.

Felodipine works by blocking calcum, and so it relaxes the blood vessels around the heart and reduces the amount of oxygen that your heart needs.

How to take felodipine plendil

Taking felodipine plendil isn't that difficult, you must follow the instructions given by your doctor to the letter. It doesn't matter whether you take this with food or not, as felodipine plendil can be taken on an empty or full stomach. You should not take felodipine plendil with grapefruit juice though.

Felodipine plendil shoud be swallowed whole, do not chew or crush the tablets up otherwise this will reduce the benefits.

You should try to get into a routine when taking felodipine plendil, try to take the tablets at a set time. If you do miss a dose then it's no huge problem simply take it as soon as you remember. After this resume your normal program.

Felodipine plendil isn't a cure for high blood pressure, it just helps to control it. It can take quite a few weeks before the effects of felodipine plendil are noticed.

Side effects of felodipine plendil

There are a number of side effects that can affect patients using felodipine plendil, these include:

Minor side effects
- Bloating
- Coughing
- Gas
- Headache
- Sickness
- Problems sleeping
- Weakness
- Constipation

These minor side effects normally disappear once you are used to taking the medication and are normally nothing to worry about.

If you do feel dizzy when you stand up then try squeezing the muscles in your legs a couple of times before you stand up.

Serious side effects
These side effects can be very serious and so it is important that you tell your doctor if you are suffering from:
- confusion
- dizziness
- fainting
- fever
- chills
- blurred vision

Which drugs can't I take with felodipine plendil?

You should not take this medication with beta blockers without your doctor's consent. Combining felodipine plendil with beta blockers can drastically reduce blood pressure, in some patient's this might be useful but in others it might be dangerous.

Using carbamazepine and felodipine plendil can make the drug less effective as it reduces the concentration in the blood stream.
