Flagyl metronidazole is an antibiotic drug, available as a generic drug and under prescription, used in treating against conditions caused by parasites and anaerobic bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria living organisms with single cells that flourish in environments with very little oxygen. They can cause abdominal (bacterial peritonitis), pelvic (fallopian tube and ovary abscesses), and liver (liver abscesses) diseases. l rosacea
l malodorous fungating wounds

Side effects

Common drug reactions associated with Flagyl metronidazole include: diarrhea, nausea, or a metallic taste in the mouth. Intravenous use is usually connected with thrombophlebitis. Adverse effects, although not common, include: headaches, dizzy spells, hypersensitivity reactions (fever, flushing, itching, rashes), stomatitis (inflammations in any of the mucous linings of any part of the mouth) glossitis (infection of the tongue), dark-colored urine, and paraesthesia (tingling, pricking, and numbing sensations in the extremities; feelings of pins and needles).


Risks

High dosages of Flagyl metronidazole or use in long-term treatments is also associated with leukopenia (decrease in white blood cell count), black hairy tongue, neutropenia (low blood count of neutrophil granulocytes), increased risks for peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage to the peripheral nervous system), and toxicity in the central nervous system. It is also considered by the International Agency for Research on Cancer to be a possible carcinogen in humans. Although some testing methods are questionable, it has been known cause cancer growth in animals. Nevertheless, since the possibilities of getting cancer through metronidazole use is quite low, the benefits of using the medication outweighs the risks it poses.
