Alphagan is an external medication in the form of drops. It is used primarily to reduce watery eyes by reducing the production of fluid in the eye and by increasing lacrimal drainage. It is also used for treating open-angle Glaucoma, also known as Ocular Hypertension.
Working of Alphagan
Alphagan eye drops have the ingredient Brimonidine, a type of medicine known as Alpha Agonist. It targets alpha receptors found on ocular blood vessels and then stimulates them. A continuous passage of liquid known as aqueous humour is maintained throughout the eye. The aqueous humor is used to build pressure within the eyeball and is produced by ciliary bodies. Ocular fluid is drained via channels known as trabecular meshwork. The pressure inside the eyeball increases if the outflow of aqueous humour is blocked causing the aqueous humour builds up inside the eye. If the pressure generated by the humor is high enough, it harms the optic nerve resulting in vision impairment.
Usage of Alphagan
