How To Form Quadratic Equations

Solving Quadratic Equations

But there was more!:

I'm looking for the equation of a demand curve, which is usually negative sloping, i.e. y = -x. Well, at least that is how it should look. However, I know that y = -x is a linear equation, and that's not exactly what I need. I guess it could be negatively exponential, but I just don't know. Perhaps it might help to give you a few examples of the points on the curve (points are in x:y format)

1) 1,000:400
2) 1,500:300
3) 2,400:200
4) 4,000:100

I should think that the y-intercept would be around 800. It doesn't matter very much whether the curve touches the x-axis, but I would think that the curve would start approaching it around 8,000 or 9,000.

This is actually the curve that I'm trying to find the equation for. Not only that, but then instead of having it in the format of y = ... , I would need it in the format x = ... If you could show me how to find that, I would appreciate it very much.

Answer:

The curve looks like the top right of a circle as I visualise it. You will find it difficult though to work out the exact equation of the curve.

Perhaps this may help put it in the form x=ay^2+bx+c:

y=ax^2+bx+c

y-c=ax^2+bx

You then have to complete the square:

y-c=sq( rt(a)x+(b/(2rt(a)) ) - b^2/4a (test it by multiplying it out. I may have made a mistake)

y-c+b^2/4a= sq( rt(a)x + (b/2rt(a)) )

rt( y-c+b^2/4a ) =rt(a)x + (b/2rt(a))

rt( y-c+b^2/4a)- (b/2rt(a)) = rt(a)x

<rt( y-c+b^2/4a ) - (b/2rt(a)) >/ <rt(a)>= x

A bit difficult to follow, so suggest writing it out on paper. Have used sq to mean ^2 at times and obviously rt(x) to mean the square-root of x. May be some mistakes here so apologise in advance if so, but gives the general idea on how to isolate x

A belated Happy 60th, Israel (part 1)

Let’s not mince our words ? “Israel shouldn’t have taken land that didn’t belong to them. “Thou shalt not steal” ? “[The Jews] displacement of the people in Palestine was real, cruel and wrong…[and the Arabs] were removed by violence.” ? “[The Jews instigate] collective punishment of the Palestinians in Gaza, which contravenes the Geneva convention.” ? “The Jews took the land by force. They did it with some viciousness….I think the West is becoming less supportive of Israel [because the Jews

Great Islamic Achievments

For 1302 years, the Ottoman Empire extended from the Atlantic Ocean in the West to the borders of China in the East, and of all the colonial empires that existed, the French, the Dutch, the Spanish, the German and even the British, the Ottoman Empire was the most advanced of all. Its driving force was the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Messenger Muhammad (saw), according to the understanding of the Sahabah, which obliges Muslims to seek knowledge and simultaneously make people aware of this kno

Fatigued

FATIGUED... Something tells me I've used the word "exhausted" as a title before... ... Not wanting to repeat my titles (unless its really necessary), I've chosed its synonym. However, no two words in the English vocabulary have the same, exact meaning. "Fatigue" means weariness from bodily or mental exertion (from_dictionary.com), like I am now, whereas "exhausted" merely illustrates drained of energy or effectiveness. One way or another, I simply wanted to express HOW FREAKKIN' TIRED I AM. So

EMF

In my world, EMF stands for, one of those “Electronic Mother Fuckers.” I know, foul language and all. I’ve used it. I am not ashamed. I am trying to get it out now, before the Pirate Twins begin to repeat any more colorful language. It just seems a term that should be used when one forgets the name of something. “Hey, Mary, can you grab that thing over there?” “Sure Pete, but what is it?” “You know, it’s one of them electronic mother fuckers.” Now you can not only buy an EMF dete

51. Planck 2008: day 4 - Soft wall AdS/QCD

The last talk of the 4th day was “Soft wall AdS/QCD” by Tony Gherghetta. The issue is of course desire to find an adequite description of QCD in the regime of strong coupling. One idea that captured everyone’s attention for several years is of course AdS/CFT correspondence. According to AdS/CFT duality, supergravity on describes physics of SYM at large ‘t Hooft coupling . This is not quite what we need though because: a) SYM is conformal field theory, while QCD is asymptotically free (cou
