Solving Quadratic Equations

So far, we have only done an example when the value before the x² isequal to 1. It works exactly the same way though whatever the value is.

eg.
3x² - 8x + 4 = 0
(The two numbers are -6 and -2)
3x²-6x-2x+4=0
3x(x-2)-2(x-2)=0
(3x-2)(x-2)=0

3x-2=0
3x=2
x=2/3

x-2=0
x=2

Therefore the two solutions here are 2/3 and 2

The quadratic formula is a quick(unless you can factorise) way of solving quadratic equations. You basically take the coefficient’s of x, x2 and numbers, put then in the formula, work out the two answers and have your 2 solutions of x.
